The Power of Just One Thing

Date:

November 24, 2025

Here we are at Thanksgiving week—racing toward the end of another year—and yet so many of our plans remain on the “someday” list. Our goals often get pushed aside because we’re busy juggling the endless details of caregiving, running a household, and somehow keeping ourselves intact.

Based on the popular BBC podcast Just One Thing by Dr. Michael Mosley, this book brings to life Dr. Mosley’s mission to find things you can introduce into your daily routine. His mission is to help you introduce things into your daily activities that will have a big impact on your mental and physical health.

Choose from the list below and do “just one thing”  but differently.  Start tomorrow.  No need to do them all at once.

  1. Breathe using Box Breathing
  2. Eat a healthy snack. 100-calorie-snacks
  3. Drink the favorite beverage you haven’t had in a while.
  4. Prepare just one favorite dish for the Thanksgiving meal, but make it differently with one small change.  Or prepare something completely different.
  5. Ask a family member to bring just one thing to the Thanksgiving gathering, such as beverages.  Ask for help.  What they can bring
  6. Take one problem-solving action for a recurring issue with your care receiver.
  7. File one medical or prescription receipt you have been avoiding. How to Organize Paper Clutter in Just Five Minutes a Day
  8. Contact one other caregiver and let the focus be on them.
  9. Do something differently today than you did yesterday. Short Term Goals
