Tax Help for Family Caregivers

Learn about free Tax Help for Family Caregivers in North Texas. 

  1. IRS’s Tax Counseling for the Elderly (TCE) and Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA)

Offers free basic tax return preparation to qualified individuals. The TCE program offers free tax help, particularly for those 60 and older, specializing in questions about pensions and retirement-related issues unique to seniors. The VITA program has operated for over 50 years. VITA sites offer free tax help to people who need assistance in preparing their own tax returns, including:

    • People who generally make $60,000 or less
    • Persons with disabilities; and
    • Limited English-speaking taxpayers

  1. AARP Foundation Tax-Aide 

AARP Foundation Tax-Aide provides in-person and virtual tax assistance to anyone, free of charge, with a special focus on taxpayers who are over 50 or have low to moderate income. Call AARP toll-free at (888) 227-7669 to find your local Tax-Aide site.

  1. United Way of Texas 

Some United Way and local partners assist community members at tax time by offering free tax assistance, both in-person and online. Find VITA, TCE, and local United Way chapters which may help with tax preparation.
