My caregiving started when my my physician/husband was diagnosed with a rare sarcoma in 2011. Staying on top of what he might need at any moment, anticipating needs and acting quickly and effectively, can be the hardest and yet most rewarding thing.
Advice for any caregiver is to know as much as you can about the disease, as fast as you can, so you can be the best patient advocate in the hospital or clinic.
Being a *Fearless Caregiver helped me change oncologists when the one assigned was not meeting our needs adequately. Being a caregiver has taught me to be an effective advocate, be compassionate, patient, and always caring.
*Fearless Caregiver – a term coined by Today’s Caregiver https://caregiver.com used to describe the skills and attitude that caregivers need to provide the best care while also taking care of their own needs.
