2026 SS COLA

The 2.8 percent cost-of-living adjustment (COLA) will begin with benefits in January 2026. Increased payments to SSI (Supplemental Security Income) recipients will begin on December 31, 2025. (Note: Some people receive both Social Security and SSI benefits.)

There are several ways to contact the Social Security Administration (SSA), such as by phone, online, and in person (by appointment)

Phone 1-800-772-1213

Website The most convenient way to obtain information and find phone numbers is online at Social Security Administration

  • Apply for Extra Help with Medicare prescription drug plan costs.
  • Apply for most types of benefits.
  • Start or complete your request for an original or replacement Social Security card.
  • Find copies of publications.
  • Get answers to frequently asked questions.
  • When you create a personal my Social Security account, you can
    • Review your Social Security Statement,
    • Verify your earnings,
    • Get estimates of future benefits,
    • Print a benefit verification letter,
    • Change your direct deposit information.

In-person

To get a Social Security appointment, use the SSA website to see if you can do your task online first (many things like getting a card or checking status don’t need an office visit). If you need in-person help, call the 800 number (1-800-772-1213) or your local office to schedule one, as appointments are required for in-person visits, typically Monday-Friday, 8:00 am -7:00 pm local time.
